The Beach

This is how I like my beaches - empty or as quiet as possible - if you look in the far background you can see another parasol hiding a fellow quiet beach lover.

I like being able to relax with my husband and baby without lots of semi-naked people walking past or lying around in their underwear - I don't like my husband seeing other women in their underwear - just because the fabric and clips are different it doesn't change what it is in essence.
I don't like seeing almost naked men in public either. I also like to be able to swim without feeling like everyone is watching. Yes I have a very modest swimsuit but that in itself can make people watch - you can almost hear them thinking - "is she really going to swim in that?" "that can't be safe" "that outfit looks very cumbersome to swim in" - ok actually I don't really care that much what other people think but people do take a second look and actually it is very easy to swim in my swimsuit despite appearances and I think people are more surprised that I swim so fast but the fact remains that I would rather swim with few people around and I like to change afterwards without struggling with a towel or retreating to a smelly public toilet.

So below you have a picture of a quiet stretch of public beach we found in Tropea. It starts to get busier around 10am and by midday it's time to think about heading back for lunch but that is fine. For those who are interested it is behind the "Isola". But be warned - don't stay too close to the rock face even though the shade may be tempting as we were made painfully aware that small stones do occasionally fall down (I never knew one could get a blue mark from a bruise so quickly), thankfully neither myself or RNG were badly injured and PLB who was peacefully sleeping under the hood of his pushchair was untouched.

It's amazing how long a baby will play happily with the same few toys.

The last day that we went to the beach I was telling RNG how happy I was that there were no jelly fish unlike the previous time 2 years before and unlike the upmarket resort just down the coast that we saw from the boat the day before that had an incredible infestation of the floating creatures, but I had been able to swim multiple times over the two weeks without seeing a single jelly fish... - "whats all the commotion over there? - It looks like the life guard has fished something out with his net what sort of disgusting thing could it be, - oh there is more..."

"JELLY FISH?!?!"

Yes, as I was talking the infestation reached Tropea - I'm not sure if you can see in the below photo but there were dozens of the things in every square meter.

Still I had just finished my last swim of the season so I didn't care!
